Listening to Music at Work Can Actually Crush Your Creativity

Despite what many people think, listening to music does not improve creativity or your ability to focus at work (though it can help you have a better workout in the gym and push you farther and harder during a run).

Researchers in Sweden and the U.K. found that if the brain is processing music, verbal working memory is impaired. When people were asked to solve brain teasers, they were better at finding solutions and summoning creativity surrounded by silence rather than music.
