John Legend on Fatherhood, How to Handle Failure, and His Essential Albums

John Legend on Fatherhood, How to Handle Failure, and His Essential Albums

John Legend is a man of many talents. The singer, songwriter, producer, and occasional actor has 10 Grammy Awards to his name, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy, and a Tony Award, making him one of only 15 people to win the “EGOT”, not to mention the multiple best-selling albums and chart-topping songs from his long music career.

But none of those jobs quite match the one that he has at home: Father. Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen have two children, Luna and Miles, and Legend has totally jumped in head-first into everything about being a dad. Whether it’s giving shoulder rides to Luna, marking milestones on Instagram, or changing diapers, Legend has enjoyed all aspects of fatherhood.

Speaking of changing diapers, that’s something that Legend has had fun with in the past, going viral in a Pampers commercial where he sings … Read the rest

Actor Joel Kinnaman got a true taste of New Orleans and Louisiana’s bayou country for his July/August cover story in Men’s Journal. From a trip to Frankie & Johnny’s, an iconic New Orleans bar and restaurant, to eating Cajun-style crawfish, riding in an airboat, and taking in some jazz music, Kinnaman got the full NOLA experience.

The actor, who made his way to Hollywood stardom after breaking out in Sweden, has traveled far and wide during his career while working on projects like Suicide Squad, House of Cards, The Killing, and his new Apple TV Plus series, For All Mankind.

With all that travel, Kinnaman has seen some amazing places, but he holds New Orleans in especially high regard.

Contacts: Wear them with caution

Contacts: Wear them with caution

Wearing contacts is a convenient correction to vision that
eliminates the extra pair of glasses. However, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, at least 41 million contact lens wearers in the
U.S. are practicing at least one behavior that can cause risk for eye
infection. Wearing contacts also puts a person at risk for eye infections and
corneal ulcers. It is important to make sure to avoid the following common
mistakes when it comes to wearing contacts.

  1. Don’t wear your contacts for too long: This can
cause scarring and loss of vision. Because contacts sit on top of the cornea, they
are actually blocking oxygen supply to this area. Letting the cornea have
oxygen from time to time is recommended. The longer worn, the higher the risk
    for germ accumulation.
  2. Wearing contacts in water: They should not be
worn in swimming pools or hot tubs. Water has

Death on the Home Front: Hell and High Water in Fort Hood

Death on the Home Front: Hell and High Water in Fort Hood

WHEN STAFF SERGEANT MIGUEL COLON VAZQUEZ woke up on the morning of June 2, 2016, his schedule looked ordinary, just another summer workday that would hopefully end well before 5 p.m. Sergeant Colon, as his fellow soldiers referred to him, had been stationed at Fort Hood Army post, in central Texas, since 2010, and lived in the nearby city of Killeen with his wife, Ngo Pham, and their three daughters. That morning, he was scheduled to drive to the base for calisthenics, come back home for a shower and a quick breakfast, and then report to his company’s motor pool at 9 a.m. for Sergeant’s Time Training, an instructional session in which he and a few other noncommissioned officers would teach driving skills to more junior soldiers. Colon, a 13-year Army veteran who had served six deployments, would be in charge of that morning’s four-vehicle convoy.

When Colon left home … Read the rest
